Once a decision to offer admission has been determined by the department, the Office of Admissions evaluates the application to verify that minimum eligibility requirements have all been met.
Applicants must have a 4-year U.S. undergraduate degree equivalent (or higher) with a GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale or the foreign equivalent.
A TOEFL score of iBT 81/PBT 550 (many departments may require a higher score)
Provisional admission is possible if you do not yet meet the minimum TOEFL requirement: International Programs and the Graduate College at the University of Iowa do work with various foreign governments and universities in their placement of fully funded graduate students.
· Applicants who will be referred to programs for provisional admission will be only those who have been guaranteed full financial sponsorship by their foreign government or university.
· The program that grants a provisional graduate admission may place any TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, or other conditions that must be met and these will be provided as specified to the student and his/her sponsor. The Office of Admissions will not change the student to a final admitted status, with eligibility to enroll in graduate classes, until all requirements are met to the satisfaction of the department.
The decision on whether to grant a provisional admission, and the TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, or other conditions that must be met prior to beginning graduate study are entirely the purview of the graduate program. Until the student obtains the TOEFL and/or GRE requirement, he/she will be enrolled at UI in Intensive English only.
