If u r talking about Master degree, yes you can. My first semester i took only 6 credits , but after i got an approval from the international office and they issued a new i20.
ya , because the international office gave me a new I20 and there is a note in the new I20 that says i am authorized to drop below the minimum required credits for that semester. And No u can't do that in the second semester
