My advice to you:
Airbnb is suitable mainly for groups but SpareRoom.co.uk is much cheaper for individuals but I guess it is only available in UK. Read the reviews well and see the amenities of each room. Anyway booking.com is only for hotels and hostels while airbnb and spareroom are apartments or studios. When you are looking for the landlord (the person you are going to rent from) try to pick an arab person and the same religion as you because you will find mutual things to do and good company instead of sitting with total strangers. I did so when I was in the UK and the arab girl was lovely.
